Do you really know how to use a pile driver? Guys, hurry up and see if you’ve stepped on a landmine!

A pile driver is a common type of construction machinery, primarily used in the construction of infrastructure such as ship docks, bridges, subway tunnels, and building foundations. However, during the operation of a pile driver, there are certain safety risks that require our special attention. The following sections will introduce these risks one by one.

Operators must hold the relevant certificates.

Before operating a pile driver, the operator must hold the appropriate professional qualification certificate and have relevant operational experience; otherwise, they will not be permitted to operate the equipment. This is because operating a pile driver involves not only the performance of the equipment itself but also various details such as the construction environment, working conditions, and construction plans.

Check whether the device is functioning properly.

Before using the pile driver each time, the equipment must be inspected to ensure that: the oil lines, electrical circuits, transmission system, hydraulic oil, bearings, and other components are in good condition; the equipment operates smoothly; and the hydraulic oil level is sufficient. If any equipment abnormalities are detected, they must be promptly repaired or replaced.

3. Prepare the surrounding environment.

When preparing the site, make sure that there are no obstacles—such as personnel, tools, or equipment—in the surrounding environment or in the areas where equipment will be used, thereby ensuring operational safety. Additionally, it is necessary to inspect the foundation conditions and geological features to ensure that the piling machine does not accidentally tip over or malfunction in areas with unstable foundations.

Keep the device stable.

When operating the equipment, it is essential to ensure that the pile driver is placed on a stable surface and to prevent it from sliding during operation. Therefore, you should choose a level ground, securely fasten the steel plates, and keep the equipment stable to avoid accidents caused by movement or vibration.

Avoid fatiguing operations.

Prolonged, continuous operation of a pile driver can cause operator fatigue; therefore, it is essential to take adequate breaks and adjust the workload accordingly. Operating a pile driver while fatigued can easily lead to impaired mental state in the operator, increasing the risk of accidents. Thus, operators should adhere strictly to the prescribed working hours and rest periods.
